Description

Having some knowledge of LGBTQ+ identities can increase your confidence in your practice with clients.

About this event

Our concept of gender and sexuality are changing. Many people are choosing identities that do not adhere to the values of traditional cisgendered, heterosexual and monogamous society.

LGBTQ+ clients seek therapy for support with issues around identity, relationships, upbringing, and place in society. Sometimes the client’s identity is secondary and perhaps inconsequential to what they want to talk about, but they often want to know the therapist is affirmative in their approach to LGBTQ+ identity.

The objectives of this workshop are to:

  • To define and explore sex, sexuality and gender as unique and overlapping concepts.
  • To increase knowledge around gender identities and pronouns.
  • To explore a number of broad issues effecting LGBTQ+ clients such as Microaggression, Minority Stress and Intersectionality.
  • To create some space to explore the delegates relationship with their gender and sexuality through small and large discussion groups and experiential activities.

Having some knowledge of LGBTQ+ identities can increase your confidence in your practice with clients. I aim to create a safe and relaxing space in my workshops for delegates to be curious, ask questions, learn and share experiences with fellow delegates. I will also share my own experiences of working with the LGBTQ+ community throughout this workshop.
